Still Very Busy Times

Posted in General Animation Bantor, Sketches, Finished on June 8th, 2009 by Jab

Work is still going strong at the Cologne animation studio, and especially fun because I’m currently getting a crash course in Flash with a pay on top.

What we’re working on is

Rudolf, the misadventures of a strange-looking rabbit-thing, thought up by Belgian animator, storyboard artist and director Rudi Mertens. Work will be outsourced to Asia soon but there’s a chance the Flash clean-up team will get to animate on episodes instead. Not a bad deal at all!

I haven’t really had the time to draw for myself much. The following two sketches are actually several months old.

Also, Mr Martinez tells me the demo for his upcoming graphic adventure Shades of Violet will be out soon. I think what they have put together looks fantastically good for an independently developed game and I’m very glad to have been given the chance to design the demo’s locations.

Layouts

Much work all around.

Commissions for Heriberto Valle Martinez and his indie adventure game “Shades of Violet”. I hope to be able to play the demo soon.

Deep One

Autumn has arrived in Germany and it has gotten cold.

I like this time of year because I appreciate the morbid moods of certain atmospheres. It’s also the perfect time to read some favourites, like “The Shadow over Innsmouth” by H. P. Lovecraft. Even though the story has decidedly racist elements, it’s an important, genre-defining horror novel.

I tried to do this in a Mike Mignola style because I’ve always admired how effortlessly he plays with shapes and hard light and shadows.

Here some ruff character expressions, some of which I think turned out not too badly.
